I'd Rather be in Philadelphia

"Captain Sobel, we salute the rank, not the man.*"

NASCAR fans, apparently forgetting that Michele Obama is the First Lady of the United States, reportedly booed her at a track in Florida this weekend.

I'm not an O-Man fan (not forgetting that he's the President of the United States) so my tepid rush to the First Lady's defense can only be described as reflexive, at best. I've sent as many e-mails questioning the administration's policies as anyone working two jobs.

But.... C'mon, man! It's a car race. She's there to say a few words, hang out and do the grip and grin thing. How about a little respect?

  1. Have you been to a NASCAR race? We had Steven's bachelor party at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Based upon my experience, booing the First Lady would not be a surprise! Actually, kind of expected given the profile (not that I profile) of the audience and the high level of hops and other distilled beverage consumption.

  2. Granted. But they would have been outraged had Laura Bush been booed at a sporting event. Even from my side of the fence both women deserve the same amount of respect.

  3. I'm a fence rider generally but not an O-Man fan. However, he's the president of this country and Michelle is his wife and that deserves some respect regardless of your political views. I think booing is uncalled for but especially at his wife!
